Meet Our Teachers
Welcome to the Upper Grades classroom! My name is Mrs. Frishman and I have taught at Hillcrest SDA School for three years.
My teaching philosophy is based on the fact that each student is unique and requires a safe, caring, and loving environment in order to grow and reach their fullest potential. I believe the classroom should be a place were students feel respected, important, and believed in. It is my desire to create this atmosphere where students will feel safe to take risks and share their ideas.
In order to meet students’ academics needs, I incorporate different learning styles, as well as make the curriculum relevant to the students’ lives. I present hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, and individual work that engage and stimulate student learning. I create opportunities for my students to ask questions, learn from their mistakes, give and receive feedback, and try their best.
I was born and raised in Shawnee, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. I attended Midland Adventist Academy from first grade all the way through my senior year of high school. I stayed busy with extracurricular activities like volleyball, basketball, choir, and band. After high school, I attended both community college and Union College.. I graduated from Union College in 2012 with my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduation I married my high school sweetheart, Zach, and we moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, for him to finish his nursing degree. Zach and I now live in North Dakota with our dog, Champ, and enjoy seeing how God leads in our lives.
In my free time, you might find me playing softball or volleyball, bicycling, exercising, FaceTiming my baby nephew, or spending time with friends and family.
I am looking forward to another exciting year at Hillcrest SDA School!
Welcome to Hillcrest SDA School first through fourth grade! My name is Ms. Courtney Gutknecht and I am so excited to share this school year with you. It’s going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning and all kinds of new experiences.
This will be my first year teaching, but it will not be my first experience in a multi-grade classroom. I studied elementary education at Union College (Lincoln, NE), where I spent many hours observing and even student teaching in a multi-grade classroom. I believe in inspiring and teaching students to love Jesus, set goals, achieve their dreams, and make a difference in the world. I am also a believer in a creative and active classroom, which allows students to think outside of the box and participate in hands on learning.
I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, and am the “youngest” of three siblings (I have a twin sister). In my free time I love to be outside, play just about every sport, and draw. I am eager to meet you all and see what Jesus has in store for us this year!
